Materials in Archery

Graham Weller, Wales Archery

Venue: BAWA Filton

October 24, 2007 at 19:30

The interaction between bow, arrow and archer raises challenges which are met by equipment, traditional and modern. This talk will cover materials used in archery including longbows for which the selection of wood is critical, steel bows and equipment used in the Olympic Games. The design of arrows which, for best results, must flex when shot to an extent dictated by the point weight, length and stiffness, but must not shatter, involves combinations of materials including wood, aluminium and metal graphite composites. Come to this talk to find out how the informed use of materials and design can optimize sporting performance.
